Platinum
Platinum also called the “king of metals” is extremely rare and is considered more precious metal than gold. It is also the heaviest metal to be used in crafting jewellery. Spaniards referred to this curious metal as “patina” or “little silver” and King Louis XVI of France declared platinum as the only metal fit for royalty. As platinum is resilient, sturdy, has a high melting point, is resistant to corrosion or chemical attack, and cannot be scratched easily, it is considered to be an ideal metal for setting precious diamond jewellery. It has a unique white luster and its neutral color perfectly brings out the natural blaze and brilliance of a diamond and hence it has become one of the most popular metals for setting diamond engagement or wedding rings.
Platinum or Plat is symbolized as “Pt” and has a purity level of up to 95%. Because of the high rate of purity level, platinum is hypoallergenic, which makes it suitable for people with sensitive skin or allergies. The common stamps given to platinum are 900 pt or 950 pt which indicate the authenticity of this metal. A piece of jewellery must include at least 95% platinum to be labeled as “Platinum” or “Plat”,
Yellow gold
This is the natural shade of gold, which is by far the most widespread form of gold used in creating jewellery. The gleaming yellow color virtually suits all skin tones and hence is preferred over other colors of gold. A proper blend of alloys like copper and silver with pure gold gives this metal its much known shine and gleam.
White Gold
Currently much in demand, white gold is considered by many as fashionable and stylish. Its silvery white nature is what makes it more alluring and special. Just like the yellow gold white gold is blend with other alloys like nickel, zinc or palladium to give it the white color. At times it is also plated with an even whiter metal called rhodium, so as to augment its look.
